After a lifetime in the corporate world I now have the opportunity to do something I love. I grew up with design as an implicit part of life - whether a strange orange plastic jug and salad bowl bought by my Mum in Denmark in 1970 or an Art Deco Smiths clock at my grandparents home in Leeds, design was all around us.
Now I can indulge myself by searching out new objects to sell on to fellow design lovers. I attend auctions (and sour many more auction catalogues!) trying to source great pieces of design, mainly from Arts & Crafts, Art Nouveau, Jugendstil and Art Deco movements. But I also include some mid-Century where the quality is apparent (and also some other items simply because I love them) I try and provide a short background to give them a context. But that is not always possible; too often it seems I hit a brick wall with what appear unique pieces. I am also a reader a the British Museum and have great excuses to immerse myself in its collections trying to extract nuggets from out of date publications, trade catalogues and journals. I hope you enjoy looking and please do comment and, if you love them as much as I do, why not buy the odd item to enjoy in your home: some of which you would otherwise find in the V&A in London or Metropolitan in New York.
A plaster plaque of St Michael made by Mary Watts at the Compton Pottery - this is museum quality.
Pressed glass - this "Hirondelle" is simply marked Made in France. It isn't by Lalique or Galle but it has all the style. This is in our own collection
It doesn't get much more Art Nouveau than this enamel of irises on a silver hand mirror.
